Villa Shanti in the White Town area of Pondicherry has been on my travel list since long. But it happened only in December 2020 during the COVID pandemic. Right from reservation, everything went smoothly. Adelie promptly responded to my calls and mails, and helped me make reservations and book taxi smoothly. I traveled solo and as a woman traveling alone, I didn’t feel uncomfortable even for a brief second. The best part about Villa Shanti is, it is designed to handle the pandemic situation effectively. All rooms have separate AC and, high ceilings and doors. Toilet is in separate room, not in the bathroom. The restaurant and bar are in the open and have no AC.
The driver, Muthu was on time at the Chennai airport to pick me up. After a beautiful drive of 3 hours, I reached Villa Shanti. Diwakar at the reception was very friendly and swiftly checked me in. Room turned out to be spotlessly clean and very aesthetically done.
The next day, I woke up to a beautiful rainy day. The restaurant and bar from the room looked very beautiful in the rain. The house keeping staff are very friendly and helpful, and asked if I needed any toiletries or change of towels. At the restaurant, Anjana served me sumptuous breakfast and hot coffee while it was drizzling! A perfect start to the day, in a long while!
Adelie, Diwakar, and another guy at reception (whose name I unfortunately forgot) were always there for any sort of assistance. Villa Shanti has exceptional chefs. The waiters, especially Rajesh, suggested dishes as per my liking perfectly. The restaurant manager ensured that customers and staff follow the COVID precautions. I highly recommend trying their fish dishes, French dishes, and definitely desserts.
On the whole, I highly recommend staying at Villa Shanti when you are in Pondicherry!
